Hey kids, remember Limp Bizkit and Fred Durst? He's back! In movie form!
Yes, the inventor of the Soul Patch and lead... rapper...? of Limp Bizkit, Fred Durst, has a movie coming out that's got cameras and lights and some kind of action involving John Travolta as a deranged stalker. Fun! 'The Fanatic', because subtlety is for chumps, tells the story of a guy called Moose (played by Travolta) who becomes obsessed with an action star named - and this is no joke - Hunter Dunbar.
Per the official synopsis, "...when he is cheated out of his opportunity to finally meet Hunter, Moose gets a little help from his friend Leah, a well-connected paparazzi photographer, who knows how to find celebrity homes. Moose turns to stalking to get the celebrity interaction he feels he deserves, and while harmless at first, Moose’s actions begin to take a dark turn as his obsession grows stronger. As the visits continue to escalate, Hunter Dunbar finds himself in increasing danger."
So, it's basically 'Misery' as directed by Limp Bizkit's Fred Durst. Got it. OK.
This isn't Fred Durst's first movie, either. Durst has not one, but TWO previous directing credits to his name - 2007's 'The Education of Charlie Banks', which had Jesse Eisenberg in it, and 2008's 'The Longshots', a family movie that starred Ice Cube. Think about that for a minute.
Imagine it's the year 1998, and someone told you that Ice Cube - late of NWA - is going to star in a family-friendly movie that'll be directed by the guy from Limp Bizkit. Or better yet, that he's then going to go on and direct a 'Misery' ripoff with John Travolta.
We live in strange, strange times. 'The Fanatic' - can't get over that title - is getting a day-and-date release in the US on August 30th. No word yet if it'll get a theatrical release here in Ireland, but, uh.... don't hold your breath.
