As today is Alien Day - in reference to LV-426, the planet where the original film and James Cameron's sequel is set - we're going through some of the trivia from the 1979 classic.

Originally titled 'Star Beast', the movie was an instant smash and garnered close to over $200 million in earnings. The movie also acted as launchpad for the career of both Sigourney Weaver and director Ridley Scott, and defined the sci-fi horror genre for years to come.

Not only that, the poster for 'Alien' is often cited (No.4 on our list of all-time greatest sci-fi posters) as one of the most iconic movie posters ever created. On top of that, HR Giger's incredible production design has influenced everything from music to architecture in the intervening years.
