At long last, the air date for the third season of HBO’s hit series ‘True Detective’ has been announced.
The first teaser trailer for the upcoming season dropped back in late August, which has been described as more akin to the first season (a major hit with critics and audiences, starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson) than the second season (which was lukewarmly received, and starred Colin Farrell and Rachel McAdams) of the show.
The next season of the crime drama stars Mahershala Ali in the lead role as Detective Wayne Hays, a state police detective from Northwest Arkansas, as well as Scoot McNairy, Stephen Dorff as Roland West, an Arkansas State Investigator, Carmen Ejogo as Amelia Reardon, an Arkansas schoolteacher with a connection to two missing children in 1980, and Mamie Gummer.
It takes place across the Ozark Mountains in three different time periods.
It is being written by Nic Pizolatto, the creator/executive producer of the series, alongside ‘Deadwood’ creator David Milch. Pizolatto will be directing three of the eight episodes (in his directorial debut) while Daniel Sackheim, who took over from Jeremy Saulnier, directs the first two episodes and three others.
The new season will debut on HBO on January 13th at 9 p.m. local time.
