'Vikings' is coming to an end with its sixth and final season.
The series, which is broadcast on RTE here in Ireland and on History Channel in the US, is inspired by the sagas of Ragnar Lothbrok and has been filmed here in Ireland since 2013.
Per Deadline and confirmed by EW, the series will end with a total of 89 episodes completed. The sixth and final season will comprise of 20 episodes, however no air date has been announced for this series.
The fifth season is currently airing in the US, with that season set to end on January 30th. As well as this, a spinoff series is currently being discussed with 'Vikings' creator Michael Hirst, though no further details were announced beyond discussions.
'Vikings' has cast a number of Irish actors throughout the years, including Moe Dunford, Gabriel Byrne, John Kavanagh, and most recently Jonathan Rhys Meyers. The series itself is filmed in Ashford Studios in Wicklow and around the Wicklow Mountains.
The remainder of the fifth season and the sixth season of 'Vikings' will air on RTE in the coming months.
