There's not long to wait until we see all of these
Thankfully, there are still plenty of hot TV shows on the horizon for the remainder of 2021.
If TV shows in 2021 have taught us anything, it's that good things come to those who wait. While there were a handful of stand-out shows on our screens the first six months of the year, the second half of 2021 looks to be making up for lost time by unleashing many new and returning shows.
'Nine Perfect Strangers' (August 20)
There's a thrilling limited series on its way to Amazon Prime this August, boasting quite the cast line-up. Based on the novel of the same name, it sees Nicola Kidman play a woman in charge of a 10-day "wellness" retreat for nine people looking to transform their lives - but by the looks of it, their lives will be changed for the worse. Just the type of trashy thriller we'll need very soon, the series also stars Melissa McCarthy, Luke Evans, Bobby Cannavale and Manny Jacinto.
'The Morning Show' season two (September 17)
Is Morning TV really as cutthroat as it looks on 'The Morning Show'? Probably. Following the huge events of the season one finale, everyone is wondering what is next for Jennifer Aniston's Alex and Reese Witherspoon's Bradley. From the looks of the trailer below, there's been quite the aftermath. This time around, Julianna Margulies will be joining the behind-the-scenes drama, alongside Holland Taylor and Irish actor Ruairi O'Connor.
'Sex Education' season three (September 17)
Hidden in amongst all of the drama and sci-fi series is the return of one of Netflix's strongest young adult series - oh, but there's plenty of drama and comedy here too. Season three of 'Sex Education' will see Moordale get a revamp of sorts, with a brand new principal arriving at the school to ensure more order is put in place for the rambunctious teens. Gillian Anderson, Asa Butterfield, Emma Mackey and Ncuti Gatwa all return, while also adding Jason Isaacs, Jemima Kirke and Dua Saleh into the mix too.
'Foundation' (September 24)
The long-awaited sci-fi series based on the books by Isaac Asimov hits Apple TV+ this September. Filmed partially in Castletroy in Limerick, the mind-bending series sprawls a massive timeline of over 1,000 years. The first-ever on-screen adaptation, which has been about 50 years in the making, stars stars Jared Harris, Lee Pace and Lou Llobell in what is definitely going to be a stunning production. Check out the trailer below if you don't believe us.
'Succession' season three (Autumn TBC)
Brian Cox, Jeremy Strong and Kieran Culkin are back for what looks to be the most tumultous season of 'Succession' yet. The third season of the hilariously dark satire will see the dysfunctional Roy family continue their sociopath-ness, backstabbing each-other until the cows some home. There will be a couple of new faces joining season three which are sure to hake things up for the characters, with Alexander Skarsgård and Adrien Brody both signed up to play pivotal roles in the series.
'The Witcher' season two (December 17)
It's almost the season of The Witch...er. Netflix confirmed this weekend (thanks to their Witchercon event) that season two of the Henry Cavill-led fantasy will be returning this December. Based on the best-selling fantasy series of books, what has us excited most about the return to The Continent is the inclusion of 'Game of Thrones' actor Kristofer Hivju as Nigel, believed to be the character Nivellen, who is more monster than man.
'American Horror Story: Double Feature' (Release date TBC)
Following a one-year break from tradition, 'American Horror Story' is back in 2021 with its tenth season. Titled 'Double Feature', there are rumours abound that the Ryan Murphy horror series will be split in half - one half will be set by the sea, while the other will be by the sand, in a desert. Pretty much all of the cast will be returning for what is expected to be one of the most eagerly-anticpated seasons of the anthology ever. The series will release on FX in the US on August 25.
'The Book of Boba Fett' (December TBC)
'The Mandalorian' is set to take a back seat for the time being, with Mando making way for the second Disney+ 'Star Wars' series, based on one of the more iconic creations by George Lucas. As with everything Disney-related, not much is known about the spin-off series yet, and it'll likely stay that way for the next few months. It's been said that the 'The Book of Boba Fett' will lean heavily on what 'The Mandalorian' delivered previously, with plenty more crossovers and 'Star Wars' easter eggs likely.
'And Just Like That...' (Release date TBC)
Gone is the 'Sex and the City' name (and so is Kim Cattrall), to be replaced by a revival series bearing the name 'And Just Like That...'. Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon will all be reprising their respective roles, joined by 'Grey's Anatomy' star Sara Ramirez who will play a character named Che. A number of faces will be returning from the past too (again, no Kim Cattrall), and pictures of the three main cast members surfaced online recently, giving us a tease of what's to come in one of the most hotly anticipated TV shows of 2021.
'YOU' season three (Release date TBC)
Now, we don't know exactly when 'YOU' season three will hit Netflix, but we do know it will be some point before the end of 2021. Production wrapped on the drama/thriller at the beginning of the year, which will continue the unhinged storyline of Penn Badgley's Joe/Will, who, at the end of season two, after moving in with equally unstable Love (Victoria Pedretti), seemed to strike up an obsession with their next-door neighbour. Here we go again...
