A biopic based on the life and career of ice-skating legends Torvill and Dean is now in the works at ITV.
Christopher Dean and Jane Torvill became household names when they took gold for the United Kingdom at the 1984 Sarajevo Winter Olympics, with an audience of over 24 million people tuning for the event. The duo will be played 'Game Of Thrones' alum Will Tudor and 'Ackley Bridge' star Poppy Lee Friar.
The screenplay is to be written by William Ivory, who wrote the script for the hit British dramedy 'Made In Dagenham' and the BBC biopic on Richard Burton and Liz Taylor starring Dominic West and Helena Bonham Carter in the respective roles. In a statement announcing the TV movie, Torvill and Dean said they "feel very honored that ITV have commissioned this film based on what was a very significant period in each of our lives."
"We have thoroughly enjoyed the time we have spent with William Ivory and the team at Darlow Smithson sharing experiences of our passion for skating, the lifelong friendship that came through our sport and everything that it took to achieve our eventual goal of becoming Olympic champions."
No release date has been set as of yet for the TV movie.
