Talk about being inspired by the times
'The Office' has been on everyone's mind of late as the debut episode recently turned 15 years old.
It's somewhat timely since a lot of us wish we were back in the office now.
For many, communication at work isn't totally down; in fact, you may be more in touch with your colleagues now than ever via zoom meetings.
The exec producers of the hit Steve Carell sitcom (Ben Silverman and Paul Lieberstein) have taken inspiration as a result.
"So many of us are jumping on daily Zoom meetings – for work and beyond," Silverman told Deadline. "We are in a new normal and are personally navigating ways to remain connected and productive at work and in our home lives.
"With the brilliant Paul Lieberstein at the helm, we think we have a series that not only brings humour and comfort during this troubling time but will also be an inventive and enduring workplace comedy for years to come."
"Start with the office comedy, lose the office and you’re just left with comedy," Lieberstein added. "The math works."
Since working and co-starring on 'The Office', Lieberstein exec produced two other workplace comedy series, 'The Newsroom' and 'Ghosted'. So he knows his stuff.
This next series is "set around a wunderkind boss who, in an effort to ensure his staff’s connectedness and productivity, asks them all to virtually interact and work face-to-face all day."
Silverman's Propagate Content and the Big Breakfast Banner will make the comedy.
