The actor refused to risk Jim and Pam
A new book published that delves behind the scenes of 'The Office' is giving us more insight into the sitcom than ever before.
As previously reported, 'Welcome to Dunder Mifflin: The Ultimate Oral History of The Office' reveals that Jenna Fischer almost quit acting before securing the role of Pam Beesly; moreover, John Krasinski made a big whoopsie in an interview before becoming Jim Halpert.
As everyone who followed the show over its nine seasons know, Jim and Pam had the ultimate love story.
However, it wasn't without its bumps and challenges.
One of those challenges came in the form of Cathy (played by Lindsey Broad), who filled in as office administrator when Pam went on maternity leave.
Cathy had a major crush on Jim and made no secrets of trying to steal him away.
Especially during that hotel scene.
According to Krasinski, a scene in 'The Office' actually did have Jim and Cathy kiss.
It would have occured during their work trip to Florida, but Krasinski convinced Greg Daniels to cut it.
Krasinski says (via UPROXX): "I remember saying things that I never thought I’d say before, like, I’m not going to shoot it."
He adds: "My feeling is there is a threshold with which you can push our audience. They are so dedicated. We have shown such great respect to them.
"But there’s a moment where if you push them too far, they’ll never come back. And I think that if you show Jim cheating, they’ll never come back."
Daniels, who created 'The Office', begs to differ.
He argues: "I feel like that kind of worry was good in terms of the fans’ engagement. I think they knew what was coming.
"They were very comfortable with the show they were getting, and I needed to worry them that maybe I was going to give them a bad ending so they were happy when they got a good ending."
The actress behind Cathy, Lindsey Broad, talked last year about getting abuse from fans following her performance.
She took to social media to write: "If anyone is wondering what it was like to be on ‘The Office,’ the best comedy of this century: I just posted something on Instagram about how my dog was murdered and a bunch of people were like ‘fuck you, Cathy, she deserved it!’ So. There ya go!"
