Production on the new season was forced to halt in March
The fourth season of 'The Handmaid's Tale' will not be airing this autumn on Hulu as originally planned.
The series was one of many TV and movie production forced to cease filming back in March due to the health crisis. New episodes of 'The Handmaid's Tale' will now air in 2021.
The postponement was somewhat inevitable. But with TV productions like 'The Witcher' and movie productions like 'Avatar 2', 'Mission: Impossible 7' and 'Jurassic World: Dominion' resuming their shoot, there was a semblance of hope.
At the same time, while some productions, like the 'Avatar' sequel, had much of their filming completed before the lockdown, the show's star (and season 4 director) Elisabeth Moss recently revealed that they were only two weeks into filming the new season and "didn't get a lot in the can" in terms of the footage shot.
Moss also stated that they wouldn't be rushing back into filming and that safety was a priority.
"We want to go back to work because families have people to support and rent they need to pay, but at the same time no human's life is worth a TV show," she told Extra TV.
"We're just trying to figure out how to do it safely for everybody."
There is no exact date for the return of 'The Handmaid's Tale' just yet.
