This actually will make you a bit misty-eyed.

It's not yet precisely known what kind of a role - if any, beyond a cameo or a small scene - said familiar faces will play in 'Star Trek: Picard', but it's nice to see them again nonetheless.

The new trailer arrived online last night and tells more of the same story from the first one. Namely, that Jean-Luc Picard is now retired and running a vineyard when he's contacted by a young woman who's being hunted. He contacts Starfleet who effectively fob him off, and he decides to go it alone - with the help of a few new faces, including Allison Pill, a Vulcan who looks like Legolas from 'Lord of the Rings' and a few others.

As for the familiar faces, Jeri Ryan - who played Seven of Nine in 'Star Trek: Voyager' is in Picard's new ragtag crew, while we also see 'The Next Generation' originals Jonathan Frakes, Marina Sirtis and Brent Spiner - playing Riker, Troi and Data respectively.

As mentioned, there's no word yet on what kind of role they're going to play in the series. Data, for example, died at the end of 'Star Trek: Nemesis', hence why he appears in a dream sequence. Troi and Riker, meanwhile, look and sound like your retired parents, so that's a nice change of pace for them.

In short, it's all very warm and sweet, and exactly what you need after 'Star Trek: Discovery'.

Take a look. 'Star Trek: Picard' arrives on Amazon Prime Video on January 24th.
