The actor was 79 years old.
René Auberjonois, best known for his roles in Robert Altman's 'M*A*S*H' and 'Star Trek: Deep Space Nine', has died at the age of 79.
Originally beginning his career in theatre, Auberjonois was cast in 'M*A*S*H' as Fr. Mulcahy, the fastidious military chaplain playing straight against the doctor's antics. The movie would serve as the jumping-off point for the famous TV series.
Throughout the '80s, he starred in the sitcom 'Benson', and had a role in Disney's 'The Little Mermaid' as Louis, the outrageously French chef who tried to cook Sebastian. Arguably his best known role to date was as Odo, the security chief of the station on 'Star Trek: Deep Space Nine'.

'Star Trek' alum such as William Shatner, Terry Farrell, showrunner Bryan Fuller, and of course Armin Shimerman who played his opposite number, Quark, shared their thoughts on Auberjonois' passing on Twitter.
I have just heard about the death of my friend and fellow actor @reneauberjonois. To sum up his life in a tweet is nearly impossible. To Judith, Tessa & Remy I send you my love & strength. I will keep you in my thoughts and remember a wonderful friendship with René.
