The '80s and the modern day collide
Ah, the '80s. One iconic show that began in 1989 is returning to our screens later this year, but with a batch of fresh new faces.
'Saved by the Bell' was famous back in the day for its portrayal of how a rag-tag group of friends survived high school while under the supervision of Mr. Belding. But in this new rebooted/sequel series, Belding is gone (finger's crossed for a Dennis Haskins cameo), and has been replaced by John Michael Higgins as Principal Toddman. And gone too is that ever-catchy intro.
As you can see in the new trailer for the series below, Elizabeth Berkley Lauren and Mario Lopez will star in the new 'Saved by the Bell' series for Peacock, reprising their roles as Jessie Spano and A.C. Slater. Tiffani Thiessen's Kelly Kapowski also makes an appearance.
Mark-Paul Gosselaar, who played Zach Morris in the original series, will also feature as the Californian governor. It seems that the character's privileged decisions lands him in hot water, and sparks the plot of the first season.
The governor begins closing too many underfunded high schools in California, and so sends the underprivileged students to the most well-funded schools in the state. And so, the privileged Bayside kids begin to intertwine with the new students, giving these flush kids a much-needed dose of reality. It's very now and relevant, and we're all up for that.
The series introduces actors newcomers Belmont Cameli, Dexter Darden, Mitchell Hoog, Alycia Pascual-Peña, Josie Totah and Haskiri Velazquez into the fold as our new young cast.
Tracey Wigfield, who served as a producer on Tina Fey's '30 Rock', will executive produce and write the series. Franco Bario and Peter Engel will also executive produce, both of whom were producers on the original 'Saved by the Bell'.
But the burning question is - will Justin Diamond return as Screech at some point? We won't be holding our breath considering his track record.
The series will arrive on streaming platform Peacock on November 25.
