He did the Irish proud

Last night's episode of 'Love Island' left viewers disappointed as fan favourite Matthew was voted out of the villa.

Matthew had been establishing a connection with new girl Priya on the dating series.

However, new boy Brett came in and swept her off her feet.

When it came down to the recoupling, Priya chose Brett, leaving Matthew single and dumped from the island.

The Northern Irish boy had originally ended up in the villa after coupling up with Kaz following Casa Amor.

He got loads of praise after ending it with Kaz when she was stringing along, vying for Tyler instead.

But Matthew holds no hard feelings, as he said in his exit interview: "She’s an amazing girl and I think we’re going to be great friends.

"The more I saw her and Tyler, they had so much of a better connection than me and Kaz had so I’m happy for both of them because they’re great people."

Matthew said of his experience overall: "Ultimately, the outstanding emotion I get is that I’m proud.

"I feel proud of the journey I went on and I stayed true to myself, I met some amazing people there that I’ll be friends with for life.

"I feel very positive about the whole situation, I’m happy."

If the Twitter response is anything to go by, he'll certainly be missed.

'Love Island' continues tonight at 9pm on Virgin Media One and on the Virgin Media Player.
