As ever, the woman behind Cersei Lannister has no problem making her feelings heard.
Now that 'Game of Thrones' is a few weeks off the air, the rubble has settled and everyone's more or less clear that the ending sucked, the actors are starting to slowly unwind their opinions.
In a frank interview with the Guardian, Lena Headey talked candidly about the show's ending - and how it wasn't quite what it should have been. "I invested as a viewer and I have my favourite characters. And I’ve got a few of my own gripes. But I haven’t sat down drunkly with David (Benioff) and Dan (Weiss) yet," said Headey.
More pointedly, however, was Headey's admission that she "wanted a better death" for Cersei than the one we all saw. "You could go in any way on that show. So I was kind of gutted. But I just think they couldn’t have pleased everyone. No matter what they did, I think there was going to be some big comedown from the climb," said Headey.
That's pretty blunt, and given how anti-climactic her ending was, it makes sense to feel that way about. After all, she'd played that character for almost a decade and to simply have her killed off in a pile of rubble was never going to sit right with anyone.
Of course, there's also that footage of the entire cast smiling and gritting their teeth through the press tour when they were asked about the final season, so evidently she had to do the same up. Now that it's all over, they can at least be honest about where the show went wrong.
