The record-breaking run of the medical drama continues
'Grey's Anatomy' has gotten the green light for its eighteenth season.
It has also been announced that 'Station 19', the spin-off to Grey's Anatomy', has been renewed for a fifth season.
'Grey's is the flagship scripted series of ABC and the longest-running medical drama on TV.
There's still no word on whether season 18 will be its last.
Krista Vernoff will continue to act as showrunner and exec producer, having worked on the integration of the 'Grey’s'-'Station 19' universe.
She also came up with the storyline this season that saw some of 'Grey's Anatomy' most beloved characters return.
The current contracts of original cast members Ellen Pompeo, Chandra Wilson and James Pickens Jr. are up at the end of this season. However, new pacts have been secured with all three of them.
It emerged last week that cast member Jesse Williams has opted to depart from the show this season.
The seventeenth season of 'Grey's Anatomy' saw the medical drama tackle the coronavirus pandemic as well as looking at racial inequality and police brutality.
Airing between 2020 and 2021, the show ranked as the top entertainment series among adults 18-49 in the USA. It was also ABC's most watched show this season in both total viewers (8.3 million) and adults 18-49.
Season 17 of 'Grey's Anatomy' is currently airing here in Ireland on Wednesdays on RTÉ Two.
