It brought Blake Jenner, Damian McGinty, Alex Newell, Samuel Larsen and Lindsay Pearce to Lima, Ohio, but now US network Oxygen has made the decision to cancel The Glee Project after just two seasons.
The network announced it's decision to pull the plug on the Reality TV show just days after Glee star Cory Monteith's death, but a spokesperon said the cancellation has absolutely nothing to do with his passing. Monteith, who died after ingesting a toxic mix of heorin and alcohol, had formerly served as a mentor on the show, along with his fellow original cast members.
The Hollywood Reporter claims that bosses wanted to bring the series back for another run, but Glee's late renewal made it impossible to schedule a new series on time. "The Glee Project will not be returning to Oxygen but we are extremely proud of this series, which launched the careers of several talented individuals. The show had so much heart, and we thank Ryan Murphy and all of the creative talent who helped make the series a critical darling," Oxygen said in a statement.
The network will now air syndicated repeats of the original series in its place.
