The sitcom celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, but there won't be any reunions
Considering the plethora of '90s shows being rebooted right now - from '90210' to 'Will & Grace' to the rumoured 'Saved by the Bell' - you might think that 'Friends' would be a shoo-in for a new series.
There's been a lot of talk about the sitcom lately, as this month marks 25 years since it first aired and became a cultural phenomenon. Even Jennifer Aniston caused a stir earlier this year when she said she'd be interested in a reunion.
However, as much as fans would love to see what Ross, Rachel, Joey, Phoebe, Monica and Chandler have been up to since the series ended in 2004, it's not going to happen. At least, according to its co-creator, Marta Kauffman.
She firmly put the rumours to rest while on a 'Friends' panel with co-creator David Crane and Executive Producer Kevin Bright at the Tribeca TV Festival on Friday.
"We will not be doing a reunion show. We will not be doing a reboot," she said. "There are two reasons for that. One of the reasons we won’t do a reunion is because this is a show about a time in your life when your friends are your family. And when you have a family, that changes. But the other reason is it’s not going to beat what we did.”
Crane added: "We did the show we wanted to do. We got it right, and we put a bow on it. If you visited those characters now, it just would not be the same DNA and chances are, it wouldn’t be as good.”
It's not the first time that Kauffman has been blunt about the prospect of a reunion or a reboot of the show, but it seems that people just keep on asking...
