Let's hope they keep that working title
Get your mind out of the gutter; this is an adventure series involving saddles, chains, helmets and handlebars. Oh dear.
Dublin comedian and lover of playing the keyboards, David O'Doherty, is embarking on a new travel series for Channel 4 named 'The Ride'.
Currently a working title (which we hope stays firmly in place), the series will see the award-winning comic head off on what has been described by the broadcaster as "a carefree, two-wheeled adventure" with some recognisable faces.
The new four-part 60-minute comedy-entertainment series will see David and a different celebrity guest hop on their bikes each week and take to the open road to have some fun and explore some of the most beautiful parts of the UK. Let's hope if the series gets picked up for a second season, Ireland gets some of the spotlight too (although maybe that's not likely - thanks Brexit).
Getting ready to saddle up alongside David O'Doherty for 'The Ride' is Richard Ayoade from 'The IT Crowd', who also hosted his own buddy-travel series, 'Travel Man'; former 'Great British Bake Off' presenter and comedian Mel Giedroyc; comedian and 'After Life' and 'Sex Education' actor Joe Wilkinson; and artist, writer and broadcaster Grayson Perry.
David and his guests will be taking in some of the most beautiful sights all around the UK, including Wales, Northumberland, Dungeness in Kent and along the Suffolk coastal district, and there promises to be plenty of laughs along their journeys.
If you've ever been wandering around Dublin, you've probably spotted the stand-up comic biking it around the city at least once, so a cycling series called 'The Ride' really is a no-brainer fit for the comedian.
Speaking about his upcoming adventure, David O'Doherty said: "I think we've all seen enough of very fit cyclists racing up mountains and whooshing round tracks on our televisions. Now it's time for quite out-of-shape people getting lost as they pedal towards a beautiful landmark that’s supposed to be just over there."
Stay tuned for more information on the new series very soon.
