Four series get the greenlight for more
'The Tourist' with Jamie Dornan leads the pack of fresh TV series renewals over at the BBC.
'The Tourist', 'Vigil', 'The Responder' and 'Time' have all been granted a BBC series renewal for a second season.
Dornan's 'The Tourist' has been a runaway success for the broadcaster, which is about a man who wakes up in the Australian outback without any memory of who he is. Given Dornan's acting profile, as well as the impressive storyline, add in it being the most-watched series of 2022 so far, and the BBC have got a hit series on their hands.
'The Responder', starring Martin Freeman as a demoted police officer, also launched earlier this year. All five episodes of the series finished airing in February and received incredibly positive reviews from viewers and critics alike, currently holding a 100% Rotten Tomatoes score.
'The Vigil' and 'Time' were both 2021 releases, both also boasting impressive cast line-ups and reviews. The former starred Suranne Jones and Rose Leslie and was noted for its gripping storyline revolving around the Royal Navy in Scotland; meanwhile, 'Time' was a three-part series starring Sean Bean and Stephen Graham in a tale about the darkness that is prison life.
While the first three series will continue their storylines, the second season of 'Time', however, will feature a new cast and will be set in an all-female prison.
Expect more information on all these BBC second series renewals in the near future. There are some other notable productions in the pipeline for the broadcaster in the coming months; the final season of 'His Dark Materials' will arrive later this year; Sharon Horgan and Martin Sheen are teaming up for Jack Thorne's 'Best Interests' series; while Gordon Ramsay is looking to invest £150,000 of his own cash into an up-and-coming food business in the new reality series called 'Gordon Ramsay’s Future Food Stars'.
