In an interview with USA Today, Baldwin confirmed his time impersonating the US President is over.
Alec Baldwin's tenure as Donald Trump on 'SNL' will undoubtedly go down in the annals of history on the long-running show.
For one thing, Baldwin's impression was spot-on and was effective in winding up the intended recipient. Not only that, Baldwin himself was the polar opposite of Trump, which made it all the more hilarious.
Yet, for all of the positives, Baldwin himself hasn't been quiet about how challenging it was and how much he disliked playing the character after a time. In fact, in more than a few sketches, you could see that the writing was getting more and more desperate, and every drop was wrung out of it.
In a frank interview with USA Today, Baldwin made it clear that he's now done playing Trump on 'SNL', and wants to move on. "I mean, I had a lot of fun with (the cast), and when Chris Kelly and Sarah Schneider wrote (Trump sketches in 2016 and 2017), that was new, it was fresh and the ratings were good," explained Baldwin.
"But I feel like I'm done with that now. I'm so done with that."
Baldwin cited 'SNL' veteran Darrell Hammond as the better impression of Trump, and praised 'The President Show' on Comedy Central, but admitted that he himself has little invested in the role anymore. "I can't imagine I would do it again. I just can't," said Baldwin.
Of course, so much of 'SNL' comedy depends on what's actually happening in the news so if Trump is suddenly impeached in the intervening months from when the series returns, the chances are they'll probably have to write a sketch or two about him.
