With rumours of a couple of spin-offs in the works
'Modern Family' is set to finish up after the show's eleventh and final season.
It's enjoyed a great run, but alas all good things must come to an end. Although originally due to end after 10 seasons, the renewal of 'Modern Family' for a final season is down to the Fox/Disney merger.
ABC, a Disney owned network, announced that it has all of the original cast returning for a final season at the network; original owners of the sitcom, 20th Century Fox, will see their assets absorbed by the $72 billion deal.
ABC network president Karey Burke made the announcement of the renewal at the Television Critics Association's press tour. She teased the upcoming season, saying "In its final season, there will be more milestone events that anyone who has been a fan of the series won’t want to miss."
Burke went on to admit that she "would love" a spin-off from the series happen. However, there are "no concrete plans" for that at the moment, although a couple of previous spinoffs were rumoured to be in development previously.
Christopher Lloyd, one half of the show's creators said "For 10 years, our characters have bravely faced turning points in life and moved through them to great personal enrichment; we have chosen a different path by doing one more season of 'Modern Family'." Very recently, fans were left devastated after one of the characters was killed off.
Since it's inception in 2009, 'Modern Family' has enjoyed winning an utter host of awards. As well as a Golden Globe, four SAG Awards, and five Emmy's in a row for Outstanding Comedy Series; the cast have gone on to win multiple awards too for their portrayal of the Dunphy, Pritchett, and Tucker families.
