But it's not what you'd expect
The cast of Tina Fey's comedy show will be returning to screens in a slightly different way than we'll have seen all these reunion specials done before.
The '30 Rock' reunion will be taking place this July as part of an upcoming online event exclusively for TV network NBC. NBC 'Upfronts' are usually a press conference hosted for journalists and influencers as they showcase all of the upcoming TV shows and the associated talent for what will be coming up in the year ahead. 2020 will instead see the newest 'Upfronts' be hosted by the cast of the comedy show, and it will be aired for TV viewers to see.
Taking place on Thursday, July 16, the beloved characters from '30 Rock' will be reuniting via video conference to host the special event. So, that means Tina Fey's Liz Lemon, Alec Baldwin's Jack Donaghy, Tracy Morgan's Tracy Jordan, Jane Krakowski's Jenna Maroney, and Jack McBayer's Kenneth Parcell will be returning to light up our screens for one final time. The rest of the secondary cast are also expected to make appearances, so fingers crossed Dalkey's own Matt Damon will be reprising his role as Lemon's on/off love interest Carol.
"We’re all happy to have this excuse to (remotely) work together again for NBC," said Tina Fey and Robert Carlock, who worked as executive producers on the series. "To quote Kenneth the Page, there are only two things we love in this world, television and everyone."
The '30 Rock' reunion comes as many other TV shows have decided to treat fans to specials in recent months. The cast of 'Parks and Recreation' recently recorded a new episode while in isolation, while the casts of 'Community' and 'Big Mouth' also treated fans to table reads of past episodes.
Given that 'TGS with Tracy Jordan' has faced much more difficult tasks ahead of going to air in the past (see the below YouTube video as a typical Jenna example), this video-conferencing event hosting should be a breeze for the team.
