With this evening's shock announcement that Dermot O'Leary had bid adieu to the big X machine and would not be returning to present the X Factor this year, it was only a matter of time before the usual faces crawled out of the woodwork.
Eternal mouth Katie Hopkins was the first to stick her head above the parapet and squawk on about O'Leary's departure. We can't tell if she sympathizes with Dermot or not, such is her command over the English language.
Bloody hell. No more Dermot OOOOOHHHHH Leary on #XFactor

And Simon Cowell, who has definitely had one of the stranger weeks of his life, took to Twitter to share his thoughts on Dermot, promising that this isn't the last we'll see of the pair on a project together.

A quiet week at the office this week!

Dermot has been an amazing presenter on the X Factor.. He held the craziness together. Most of the time. He is a great guy and a real talent

And we will work together on something else.

Meanwhile The X Factor themselves bid Dermot a fond farewell with this cheerful throwback to the X Factor final of days past.

We can't see anyone else coming along and making fake jetpacks look semi-decent on our tellies now.
