"The internet is too fast! We have the right to be ridiculous!"
Before we began writing this article, our internal Slack channel weighed up the pros and cons of writing about this.
For one, giving any kind of airtime or coverage to John Waters (not the gay icon behind 'Hairspray' or 'Pink Flamingos') or failed political candidate Gemma O'Doherty is abhorrent to us. But, at the same time, we can't not enjoy a bit of comedy in these times.
Ultimately, we went with the funny and, reader, this is very, very funny. TPM decided to hold a counter-protest in Dundalk yesterday against Gemma O'Doherty and John Waters (not the beloved director and cultural treasure) and, sure enough, it was just perfect.
The TPM lads turned up with tinfoil on their heads, a bullhorn, and shouted about the internet is too fast nowadays and want to bring back dial-up, how there's only one Tesco in Dundalk with no old escalators, all while Gemma O'Doherty and John Waters (not the one who had a brilliant guest-spot in 'The Simpsons') putter around awkwardly in the background.
Take a look.
Racism not welcome in Dundalk, thanks to everyone who took a stand. xoxo pic.twitter.com/O1oMY1JEKs
