Phoenix was arrested alongside Martin Sheen and 145 other protestors yesterday in the US capital.
Golden Globe-winning actor and potential Oscar frontrunner Joaquin Phoenix was arrested yesterday in Washington DC while taking part in a protest against climate change.
Phoenix's arrest was part of Fire Drill Fridays, wherein Jane Fonda convinces recognisable actors to get arrested to show support and solidarity for climate activists around the world.

Speaking at the protest, Phoenix explained that "we wonder what can we do in this fight against climate change, and there is something that you can do today and tomorrow, by making a choice about what you consume."
Phoenix is one of several actors who have taken part - and been arrested - for Jane Fonda's Fire Drill Fridays. Ted Danson, Ian Armitage, Jane Fonda herself, Martin Sheen and several others have all been slapped in cuffs for taking part in the protest.
Just yesterday, in fact, US Capitol Police arrested 147 people - the highest of the weekly protests so far - for "crowding, obstructing or incommoding." Here's Martin Sheen's speech yesterday just before he was arrested.
