Because that's the kind of information people need.
Is there a breaking point for fan-service? At what point do people stop and go, "Actually, I don't think I care," and leave well enough alone?
'Star Wars', before Disney took over, had an insanely detailed backstory behind just about every character you would have seen in the movies. There was even an explanation for the dotted lines on the side of Han Solo's pants.
JK Rowling's 'Pottermore', however, has outdone them all and literally explained how wizards in the 18th century managed doing a poo. Yes, that's right. A number two. Dropping a log. Taking a dump. 'Pottermore' has written an explanation for how wizards do it.
As the tweet from the official account explains, "Hogwarts didn't always have bathrooms. Before adopting Muggle plumbing methods in the eighteenth century, witches and wizards simply relieved themselves wherever they stood, and vanished the evidence."

Sure, there are some insanely involved fans of 'Harry Potter' and all of the Wizarding World, but do they actually need to know this? Would anyone have questioned how it was that wizards came to take a dump where they stood and then magically wiped their arses in Hogwarts?
No, and you'd be insane for thinking otherwise. Yet, here we are, now aware of this fact and incapable of doing otherwise. We all know this now.
We could have lived a full and happy life unencumbered with this knowledge. Maybe the internet was a mistake, because it gave us this.
