The Critics Choice Awards took place last night and like the recent Golden Globes, big winners of the night included The Handmaid’s Tale and Big Little Lies (check out the full list of TV winners here).
As for film, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri and The Shape of Water did well for themselves (full list here), while Margot Robbie took home the Best Actress in a Comedy award for I, Tonya and James Franco won for Best Actor in a Comedy for playing Tommy Wiseau in The Disaster Artist.
As Vice Principals star Walton Goggins went to present the award to Franco, he informed attendees that the actor was not present following what EW described as a ‘smattering of applause.’
Such a reception, and Franco’s absence, can hardly be a surprise given yesterday’s LA Times report of five women accusing Franco of inappropriate behaviour, including indecent exposure. The report follows Franco’s appearances on both Seth Meyers and Stephen Colbert's talk shows on which he said the reports are “inaccurate”, which his lawyer echoed in a statement to the Times.
