From the mind of Neil Gaiman
With its release just around the corner, Netflix dropped the full trailer for comic book adaptation 'The Sandman' over the weekend.
In the trailer we meet Morpheus, the King of Dreams. After escaping a century-long capture, he returns to his realm to find it destroyed.
"Your waking world is shaped by dreams," says the enigmatic character. "Dreams and nightmares that I create and which I must control."
To restore order, Morpheus must journey across different worlds and timelines to mend the mistakes he’s made during his vast existence, revisiting old friends and foes, and meeting new entities — both cosmic and human — along the way.
Tom Sturridge stars as the Sandman himself. Joining him are Charles Dance, Gwendoline Christie, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, David Thewlis Stephen Fry, and Jenna Coleman. Also starring are Boyd Holbrook, Mason Alexander Park, Donna Preston, Joely Richardson, Kyo Ra, Razane Jammal, Sandra James-Young, Vivienne Acheampong, Asim Chaudhry, and Sanjeev Bhaskar.
The series is based on the comic books of the same name written by Neil Gaiman. The original run spanned from 1989 - 1996 and consist of 75 issues.
'The Sandman' is regarded as one of the best graphic novel series of all time. It's longevity has compiled fans across multiple generations and it has been celebrated for its progressive themes and characters.
Gaiman helped develop the series alongside David S. Goyer, who was involved in Christopher Nolan's 'Dark Knight' series, and Allan Heinberg, creator of the 'Young Avengers' comics.
Talking to Collider, Gaiman stated, "I think that if you're somebody who loves the original comics, you will love the Netflix series. If you're somebody who knows the original comics well, you will have an absolute advantage. But, much like Game of Thrones, while you will have an advantage, you will not always be one step ahead."
