The latest Ryan Murphy and Netflix collaboration is here
With movie theatres sadly remaining closed for the foreseeable future, the likelihood of us being able to watch a festive and over-the-top musical number are quickly fading away.
But alas, Netflix may just hold our only salvation. The online streamer's newest release will take the form of a musical number that is sure to win us over this winter. Stuffed full of incredible talent, 'The Prom' looks set to a sure-fire hit.
Included in the cast list are Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman, Keegan-Michael Key, Andrew Rannells, Kerry Washington, Tracey Ullman, Ariana DeBose, and Jo Ellen Pellman. Oh, and James Corden (who is likely attempting to make us all forget his most recent cat-astrophic musical).
Directed by Ryan Murphy (who doesn't seem to have taken a day off all year), the Netflix musical promises to be a joyous adaptation of the Tony-nominated Broadway musical on which it is based.
Here are some pictures from the Netflix musical. We should expect a trailer to arrive very soon too.
Here's the synopsis of the Netflix musical: Dee Dee Allen (Meryl Streep) and Barry Glickman (James Corden) are New York City stage stars with a crisis on their hands: their expensive new Broadway show is a major flop that has suddenly flatlined their careers. Meanwhile, in small-town Indiana, high school student Emma Nolan (Jo Ellen Pellman) is experiencing a very different kind of heartbreak: despite the support of the high school principal (Keegan-Michael Key), the head of the PTA (Kerry Washington) has banned her from attending the prom with her girlfriend, Alyssa (Ariana DeBose).
When Dee Dee and Barry decide that Emma's predicament is the perfect cause to help resurrect their public images, they hit the road with Angie (Academy Award winner Nicole Kidman) and Trent (Andrew Rannells), another pair of cynical actors looking for a professional lift. But when their self-absorbed celebrity activism unexpectedly backfires, the foursome find their own lives upended as they rally to give Emma a night where she can truly celebrate who she is.
'The Prom' will be released on Netflix December 11.
