Definitely the right choice
Even though the penultimate season of the Netflix series has not even arrived yet, we're already looking ahead at the plot points which will be covered in the sixth and final season.
Netflix and producers Left Bank Pictures have decided against filming the death of Princess Diana during season six of 'The Crown'.
According to The Sun, the final season of the partially-factual drama series about all things Windsor-related will leave this tragic moment in history as a subject too dark for the audience to re-live.
While the moments leading up to the death of Princess Diana in 1997 will be covered, she will die off-screen. A Netflix representative told the publication: "The exact moment of the crash impact will not be shown."
A source also told Deadline that the crew were feeling anxious about the topic: "We’ve been dreading getting to this point. The countdown is two weeks and while we’re calmly carrying on it’s fair to acknowledge that there’s a certain anxiety; a palpable sense of being slightly on edge. I mean, there’s bombshell sensitivity surrounding this one."
One of the most devastating moments in recent history, because Diana was so very much liked by all, happened in the early hours of the morning of August 31, 1997 due to a paparazzi frenzy. The Princess of Wales died in a car crash in the Pont de l'Alma tunnel in Paris alongside her partner Dodi Fayed.
Season five will hit Netflix next month, and features a whole new cast taking over the ageing real-life characters. Elizabeth Debicki will portray Princess Diana as 'The Crown' enters the long stretch, covering the breakdown of her marriage and eventual divorce in 1992. Dominic West will play her future ex-husband, Prince Charles.
Imelda Staunton takes up the title of the late Queen, Elizabeth II, while Jonathan Pryce will star as her husband, Prince Philip. Lesley Manville joins the series as Elizabeth's younger sister, Princess Margaret.
The official trailer for season five is expected to drop later today, so keep an eye out for that flooding your timeline very soon.
'The Crown' season five begins on Netflix on Wednesday, November 9.
