"We were totally blown away"
From one legend to another, the team behind 'Stranger Things' sure knows how to pick some pretty awesome tunes.
In case you weren't aware, 'Stranger Things' has been known to feature a fair few bops. Metallica are the latest '80s legends to get the 'Stranger Things' treatment, hot on the heels of Kate Bush's 'Running Up That Hill' from Volume One, with the season four finale featuring the metal band's 'Master of Puppets' from 1986.
The song featured during quite a pivotal moment in the series, with Eddie Munson (Joseph Quinn) rocking out to the track, guitar in hand, on top of a camper van in the middle of The Upside Down, with an ever-helpful Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo) by his side.
The final two episodes premiered on Netflix Friday last, and since then 'Master of Puppets' has seen a huge uptake from viewers. The track is currently number four in the global Shazam charts (Kate Bush is at number three) and is currently number 25 in the Spotify Charts of Ireland and also number 41 in the Apple Music Charts in Ireland.
The band took to Instagram to share what an "honour" it has been for them to feature in the series, while also praising Quinn's meticulous guitar work on screen.
They wrote: "The way The Duffer Brothers have incorporated music into 'Stranger Things' has always been next level, so we were beyond psyched for them to not only include 'Master of Puppets' in the show, but to have such a pivotal scene built around it.
"We were all stoked to see the final result and when we did we were totally blown away… it’s so extremely well done, so much so, that some folks were able to guess the song just by seeing a few seconds of Joseph Quinn’s hands in the trailer! How crazy cool is that?
"It’s an incredible honour to be such a big part of Eddie’s journey and to once again be keeping company with all of the other amazing artists featured in the show."
Here's the 'Stranger Things' post by Metallica, complete with the musical moment in question.
Season four of the Netflix hit has become the second most-watched series on the streaming service of all time. Clocking in at a huge 1.15 billion hours worldwide this past weekend, the fantasy series is now in second place to South Korean thriller 'Squid Game'.
'Stranger Things' season four is streaming on Netflix now.
