"When the universe f*cks with you - let it."
Natasha Lyonne's Groundhog/Death Day follow-up returns next month.
Christmas has come early for fans of the off-kilter dramedy as Netflix has released a first-look trailer, some brand new images, and a release date for 'Russian Doll' season two.
The Natasha Lyonne-led season one saw the character Nadia be forced to relive her death in a constant time loop after stumbling out of her friend's party in New York City. However, after her encounter with Alan (Charlie Barnett), who was also stuck in a time warp, the pair worked together and escaped.
Season two will pick up four years later after they discover "a fate even worse than endless death" at one of Manhattan's prime locations; this time they're heading into the past.
Some new images from the series were also released by Netflix back in February, featuring Greta Lee from season one as Nadia's friend Maxine, plus Annie Murphy's new character who, judging by her hairdo, could be from the 1980s.
The first season of the time-altering series arrived all the way back in February 2019, co-created by Lyonne, Amy Poehler, and Leslye Headland. It proved to be quite popular with viewers and critics alike, earning itself four Emmy Awards including Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Lead Actress for Lyonne.
Season two was originally announced in June 2019, but due to everything these past few years, it was put on the backburner until now.
Here's the 'Russian Doll' season two trailer.
Set four years after Nadia (Natasha Lyonne) and Alan (Charlie Barnett) escaped mortality’s time loop together, season two of Russian Doll will continue to explore existential thematics through an often humorous and sci-fi lens. Discovering a fate even worse than endless death, this season finds Nadia and Alan delving deeper into their pasts through an unexpected time portal located in one of Manhattan’s most notorious locations. At first they experience this as an ever-expanding, era-spanning, intergenerational adventure but they soon discover this extraordinary event might be more than they bargained for and, together, must search for a way out.
'Russian Doll' season two hits Netflix on April 30.
