The writer of Disney+'s 'Moon Knight' is on board the project
The newest cosmic hero to join the MCU will get his own solo outing.
Nova is the newest Marvel superhero to get the official green light at Marvel Studios. Kevin Feige will produce, with 'Moon Knight' writer Sabir Pirzada on board to pen the script.
Leaving us in the dark for the moment, the project is currently in its early stages of development, meaning it's not yet known whether this will be a stand-alone 'Nova' movie for theatrical release or if it will be a new Disney+ live-action TV series, much like the forthcoming 'Moon Knight'.
Nova, AKA Richard Rider, is of course a Marvel comic book character, originally created by Marv Wolfman and John Romita Sr. The character's first official appearance was in 'The Man Called Nova' issue number one all the way back in 1976, his new identity after briefly being known as The Star during the '60s. A member of the intergalactic policing group known as Nova Corps, Nova helps defend the galaxy from all sorts of threats.
The Nova Corps team, who are guided by a sentient computer known as the Xandarian Worldmind, predominantly follows the lives of its two human members, Rider and Sam Alexander. Nova's abilities are likely to be changed for the screen as they're not too dissimilar from Captain Marvel's, but he also has the rather handy power of creating unlimited wormholes.
Nova gives off serious Spider-Man/Peter Parker vibes, in so far as he's a teenager attending high school. With Tom Holland's Spidey expected to continue his legacy in a new trilogy as an adult, Nova could be his natural teenage replacement in the MCU, albeit with some more intergalactic elements thrown in.
In his long history, Nova at Marvel hasn't had that many run-ins with the MCU heavy-hitters we've seen on screen. He's had run-ins with the shapeshifters known as the Skrulls (who are expected to heavily feature in Disney+'s 'Secret Invasion') and he also teamed up briefly with the Guardians Of The Galaxy.
So, the question remains, has Nova already been cast in the MCU? And will he appear as a character in at least one of the upcoming Phase 4 releases? With 'Doctor Strange 2', 'Thor: Love And Thunder' and 'Black Panther: Wakanda Forever' all set for release this year, don't be surprised if he makes a cameo appearance.
The next Marvel project, 'Moon Knight', releases next Wednesday, March 30 on Disney+.
