The Amazon Prime series is based on the 2003 movie of the same name.
Although it's now primarily known as the movie that broke up Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston's marriage, 'Mr. & Mrs. Smith' is getting a reboot in the form of a new series on Amazon Prime.
This time around, the titular Mr. and Mrs. Smith are played by Donald Glover and Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who team up as the assassins / happily-married couple hired by both of their agencies to kill the other one. The pair previously starred together in 'Solo: A Star Wars Story' where Glover played a young version of Lando Calrissian, while Waller-Bridge played his sarcastic robot companion, L3-37.
Glover is best known for his FX Series, 'Atlanta', and his musical career under his pseudonym Childish Gambino, while Phoebe Waller-Bridge is the creator of 'Fleabag' and 'Killing Eve'. The announcement came - where else - from Instagram, where Donald Glover posted a video of he and Waller-Bridge attempting a dance set to the Matrixx remix of Paul Anka's 'Put Your Head On My Shoulder'.
So far, there's been no casting announcements beyond the two leads, though it's understood that Francesca Sloane - who wrote several episodes of 'The First', and the new season of 'Fargo' - is working as showrunner on the new series.
Here's that video.
