This marks the third attempt to reboot 'How I Met Your Mother'
'How I Met Your Father' has officially been ordered at US streaming service Hulu (owned by Disney).
The show marks the sequel to hit sitcom 'How I Met Your Mother'.
There will be 10 episodes of the series in total and, like its predecessor, it will be set in New York.
Hilary Duff, who previously collaborated with Disney on the series 'Lizzie McGuire', plays Sophie.
The official logline reads: "In the near future, Sophie is telling her son the story of how she met his father: a story that catapults us back to the year 2021 where Sophie and her close-knit group of friends are in the midst of figuring out who they are, what they want out of life, and how to fall in love in the age of dating apps and limitless options."
'How I Met Your Mother' creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas are on board as executive producers. There are other creative team members of note too.
'This Is Us' co-showrunners and 'Love, Victor' co-creators Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger serve as writers and exec producers. Duff will produce as well as star in the series.
As was the case with 'How I Met Your Mother', it is a 20th Television production.
The original comedy starred Josh Radnor, Cobie Smulders, Neil Patrick Harris, Jason Segel, and Alyson Hannigan. It aired for nine seasons and over 200 episodes between 2005 and 2014.
Previously, there was an attempt to spin off the series in 2013. 'How I Met Your Dad' starred Greta Gerwig, with Meg Ryan attached to narrate, but the project was not picked up to series.
Aptaker and Berger also attempted a spinoff in 2016.
Duff was due to star in a reboot of 'Lizzie McGuire.' However. the project fell apart as the actress wanted a more mature take on the now adult character, but received push back from Disney.
She also stars in the series 'Younger', which airs its final season shortly.
Duff took to Instagram to announce her involvement in the new series.
No premiere date for 'How I Met Your Father' has been issued as yet.
