Go on, Disney, embrace the dark side
With 'Obi-Wan Kenobi' kicking off on Disney+ last Friday (and episode three now available), we've yet to get our first proper look at what the franchise's big bad has been getting up to.
But this could all be about to change, as there are rumblings of a Darth Vader spin-off potentially on the way for 'Star Wars' fans.
Well, Hayden Christensen is up for it anyway. The Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader actor recently mentioned being keen for a return to the franchise once again, this time for a standalone villainous turn centring on the antagonist.
After being posed this question by ET Canada, the actor said: "Yeah, I mean, you know, absolutely. I think this is a character that sort of resonates in our culture and in a very kind of profound way. And there’s certainly more there to explore. There are so many other stories that have been told in these other mediums.
"I would love to get to continue my journey with him."
And so, there you have it. It seems likely that Disney/Lucasfilm could already be mulling over this dip into the dark side of the force for Disney+. Should a Darth Vader series be confirmed in the future, it would be quite a mature step for the franchise to head in, and one that fans would definitely get behind. However, this is all just wishful thinking for now, so don't expect there to be a confirmation just yet.
'Obi-Wan Kenobi' has been receiving positive feedback since its two-episode debut on the streaming service last Friday. With the third episode streaming now on Disney+, there are only three more to go until the finale. Could there be a Darth Vader spin-off confirmed in the closing credits à la 'The Mandalorian' season two, which confirmed 'The Book of Boba Fett'? Let's wait and see.
Ewan McGregor said in an interview recently with Entertainment Weekly that he's up for more 'Obi-Wan Kenobi' after the first season. The series became the most-watched series premiere of all time for Disney+.
