The late musician and singer was 79 years old.
Tributes have poured in for Christine McVie, following her passing yesterday after battling a very short illness.
The Fleetwood Mac star's family posted the sad news on Facebook, writing: "On behalf of Christine McVie’s family, it is with a heavy heart we are informing you of Christine’s death. She passed away peacefully at hospital this morning, Wednesday, November 30th 2022, following a short illness.
"She was in the company of her family. We kindly ask that you respect the family’s privacy at this extremely painful time, and we would like everyone to keep Christine in their hearts and remember the life of an incredible human being, and revered musician who was loved universally.
"RIP Christine McVie."
The star, who was born in Lancashire in 1943, joined one of the most beloved - and tumultuous - rock bands of our time in 1969. The singer-turned-keyboardist married bassist John McVie in 1968 but divorced him eight years afterwards, later marrying the late Portuguese singer Eduardo Quintela in 1986.
Before joining Fleetwood Mac, McVie was a member of the British blues band Chicken Shack, going by her given name of Christine Perfect. Following her switch to Fleetwood, she also released a number of solo albums - the most recent one being a collaboration with fellow Fleetwood member Lindsay Buckingham in 2017, simply titled 'Lindsey Buckingham Christine McVie'.
McVie's songs 'Over My Head', 'Don't Stop', 'Everywhere' and 'Say You Love Me' started to get the band critical and commercial acclaim, but one of the most famous songs she wrote is 'Songbird'. The song. isbeing shared across the internet in her honour today.
Tributes are being made for Christine McVie from her Fleetwood Mac band mates and her fans. The official Twitter account for Fleetwood Mac wrote: "There are no words to describe our sadness [...] She ws truly one-of-a-kind, special and talented beyond measure. [...] We were so lucky to have a life with her. [...] We will be so very missed."
Stevie Nicks, who shared a very close relationship with Christine, wrote a very touching hand-written letter to her "best friend in the whole world". The 74-year-old wrote: "I didn't even know she was ill… until late Saturday night."
She said she wished to travel to London to visit her, but was "told to wait". She then wrote lyrics to Haim's song 'Hallelujah', writing that the song was going around her head "over and over and over".
Former US President Bill Clinton thanked Christine and Fleetwood for "entrusting" him and his team with the song 'Don't Stop' for his 1992 campaign.
