The Swifties are not happy
We knew there was going to be trouble surrounding Swift going on tour, but we never in our wildest dreams could have imagined just how bad the ticket situation was going to get.
The Swifties are out in force - and for good reason. Taylor Swift fans in the US were left staring off into a blank space on Ticketmaster earlier this week after the website buckled under the sheer amount of people vying to nab themselves a golden ticket to her upcoming tour.
And as we all know, all too well, you don't want to anger the Swifties.
The ticketing website was stuck in a lavender haze that eventually turned into a scarlet, more maroon colour as the public sale date for the 'Eras Tour' this Friday was cancelled. The website cites "extraordinarily high demands" being placed on the service by millions of eager fans.
This comes off the back of tickets for Swift's tour which first went on sale on Tuesday this week. It was an undertaking for fans that did not begin well, with complaints about site errors and an extremely long wait time of five hours. Eventually, over two million tickets were sold, which takes the record for the most tickets sold by an artist in a single day - ever.
Ticketmaster said in a statement: "Historically, working with Verified Fan invite codes has worked as we've been able to manage the volume coming into the site to shop for tickets. However, this time the staggering number of bot attacks as well as fans who didn't have invite codes drove unprecedented traffic on our site, resulting in 3.5 billion total system requests — 4x our previous peak.
"It usually takes us about an hour to sell through a stadium show, but we slowed down some sales and pushed back others to stabilize the systems. The trade off was longer wait times in queue for some fans."
Now the Swift fan force, and some US politicians, are calling for the ticket sales website to be analysed with a fine tooth comb following the furore it has caused this week, because anyone who has tried to buy tickets for a popular artist knows that the website can be an anti-hero at times.
Let's take a look at some tweets about the Taylor Swift x Ticketmaster fiasco (while we still can).
Everyone is waiting with baited breath to see if Taylor Swift will speak now about the chaos. Will we be ready for it...?
It'll be interesting to see if the ticket situation for the European leg of her tour is fixed ahead of its TBD release. Otherwise, the Irish Swifties might start pulling vigilante sh*t.
