Richard Ashcroft and Lily Allen are at loggerheads over what they believe a musician's role is in the world should be.

It's been a busy few weeks for Ashcroft, who was at the centre of a controversy last weekend when something suspicious fell out of his pocket on live TV.

The former Verve frontman spoke to Radio X recently also, saying that musicians need to "stop making speeches" and "go back and entertain the world". He continued, "so many fucking artists, man, if they can’t write a song or they can’t sing or they can’t play, they end up being like semi-political leaders".

Allen then hit back at Ashcroft's rant, as part of an 'In The Bathroom" beauty series, saying, "that’s all very well for you to say Richard Ashcroft, you're a middle-aged really successful white person, who won’t have to have gone through a lot of the things I or indeed many other girls would have to have gone through.”

The sticky situation has since escalated by Ashcroft, when he commented on an Instagram post of the story, calling Allen a "Train wreck dressed as a hashtag". Yikes:

Allen recently release her own book entitled 'My Thoughts Exactly'. The description of the book reads:

"So, this is me. Lily Allen.
I am a woman.
I am a mother.
I was a wife.
I drink.
I have taken drugs.
I have loved and been let down.
I am a success and a failure.
I am a songwriter.
I am a singer.
I am all these things and more.

When women share their stories, loudly and clearly and honestly, things begin to change - for the better.
This is my story."

Allen hasn't yet retorted to Ashcroft's name calling, but we doubt that she will stay quiet for long.
