It wasn't the first time McCartney had dissed the rock band
Mick Jagger didn't miss a beat when it came to giving a sharp response to a recent diss from Paul McCartney.
Paul McCartney had taken aim at the Rolling Stones - and not for the first time - in an interview with the New Yorker about the Beatles documentary series coming to Disney Plus.
The doc rolls out over three days, November 25, 26, and 27, 2021, and is directed by Peter Jackson.
The Beatles bassist said of the Rolling Stones in the interview: "I'm not sure I should say it, but they're a blues cover band, that's sort of what the Stones are.
"I think our net was cast a bit wider than theirs."
Last year on The Howard Stern Show, Paul McCartney had said the Beatles "were better" than the Rolling Stones (though he did admit "They're a fantastic group", and "a great, great band").
Mick Jagger had responded to the comment on Apple Music's 'The Zane Lowe Show', saying: "There's obviously no competition.
"The Rolling Stones [are] a big concert band in other decades and other eras, when the Beatles never even did an arena tour, Madison Square Garden with a decent sound system.
"[The Stones] started doing stadium gigs in the '70s and [are] still doing them now.
"That's the real big difference between these two bands. One band is unbelievably luckily still playing in stadiums, and then the other band doesn't exist."
Jagger then clapped back quite brilliantly at McCartney's recent "blues cover band" remark.
He shared a small clip from a recent LA gig in which he told the audience: "There are so many celebrities here tonight, of course, you know, naturally.
"Megan Fox is here, she's lovely. Leonardo DiCaprio. Lady Gaga. Kirk Douglas.
"Paul McCartney is here, he's going to join us in a blues cover later on."
Brilliant.
