"She’s only 19, but she can kill ya / She ain’t my type, but it is what it is"

Historically-speaking, musicians writing songs inspired by the Covid pandemic have not gone down too well with most of the general public.

We mean you, Van Morrison.

However, Iggy Pop's latest track proves that you can write a song about a global crisis without being a dick.

The punk legend takes a tongue-in-cheek approach to things on 'Dirty Little Virus', a lighthearted rock tune about Covid-19 with pretty awful lyrics but the best of intentions.

Lines on the track include: "She’s only 19, but she can kill ya / She ain’t my type, but it is what it is", while it opens with "COVID-19 is on the scene / Grandfather’s dead / Got Trump instead.”

Pop said that he was "“moved to write a direct lyric, not something too emotional or deep, more like journalism. Who, what, where, where… I left out the why, because that gets too complex. But I put in how I felt about it.”
