Her new album is out in September
Nothing is straightforward when it comes to Lana Del Rey, but her announcement of a new album yesterday has somehow turned into a major backlash.
The follow-up to 'Norman Fucking Rockwell' will arrive on September 5th, but in the midst of her announcing this info on Instagram, the singer embroiled herself in a controversy regarding other female musicians.
She began the post - which was intended as a defence against those who accused her of 'glamourising violence' or portraying women in her songs as 'passive' or 'submissive' - by saying "Question for the culture: now that Doja Cat, Ariana, Camila, Cardi B, Kehlani and Nicki Minaj and Beyoncé have have had number ones with songs about being sexy, wearing no clothes, fucking, cheating etc., can I please go back to singing about being embodied, feeling beautiful by being in love even if the relationship is not perfect, or dancing for money – or whatever I want – without being crucified or saying that I’m glamorizing abuse??????”

Because all of the artists that she mentioned were black or mixed race, however, her message was accused of having racist undertones.
She later edited the caption of her post to denounce those who had accused her of such a thing.
"Bro. This is sad to make it about a WOC issue when I’m talking about my favorite singers," she wrote. "I could’ve literally said anyone but I picked my favorite fucking people. And this is the problem with society today, not everything is about whatever you want it to be.
"It’s exactly the point of my post – there are certain women that culture doesn’t want to have a voice it may not have to do with race I don’t know what it has to do with. I don’t care anymore but don’t ever ever ever ever bro- call me racist because that is bullshit."
None of the artists that she mentioned have yet commented publicly.
She did have one final riposte, though:
