The band's seventh album arrives a year after their last one
We've known that a new album by The Killers has been in the works for some time, but now the Las Vegas band have announced the details.
It's called 'Pressure Machine' and the band have been working on it throughout the pandemic, even though their last album 'Imploding the Mirage' was released last August.
Back in January, drummer Ronnie Vanucci shared an Instagram Live from the studio that suggested that the indie-rockers were taking a different direction with their seventh album.
They confirmed last month that it would be a 'bit of a concept record' and 'very different' from their previous fare, and would be released in August.
Now, the finer details of 'Pressure Machine' have been ironed out: it'll be released on August 13th via Island Records and is, according to frontman Brandon Flowers, inadvertently influenced by the pandemic. "It was the first time in a long time for me that I was faced with silence,” he said in s statement. “And out of that silence this record began to bloom, full of songs that would have otherwise been too quiet and drowned out by the noise of typical Killers records.”
Many of the songs are based on memories and stories of Flowers' childhood hometown of Nephi, Utah, where he lived for much of his youth before moving to Vegas at the age of 16.
Vanucci said: "We were discussing [Brandon] moving to Nephi as a kid and being stuck in the middle of nowhere. And during COVID-19, it started to feel like we were all in the middle of nowhere.”
Flowers added: "I discovered this grief that I hadn’t dealt with, many memories of my time in Nephi are tender. But the ones tied to fear or great sadness were emotionally charged. I’ve got more understanding now than when we started the band, and hopefully I was able to do justice to these stories and these lives in this little town that I grew up in."
You can see a trailer for the album below. The Killers are set to play Dublin's Malahide Castle on June 14th and 15th 2022. Johnny Marr will be joining them as support on their just-announced US tour dates, but not on their European tour.
