The pop star spoke about his experience in a new interview
Being an internationally renowned pop star may not be the most difficult job in the world, but when you're as famous as Harry Styles, it undoubtedly places a lot of pressure on your shoulders.
Styles has opened up about how his mental health had been suffering and how he had benefitted from going to therapy over the last five years in a new interview with Better Homes & Gardens.
The 28-year-old said that he has initially been hesitant to go down the route of therapy. "I thought it meant that you were broken," he said. "I wanted to be the one who could say I didn’t need it."
He added that he had tended to "emotionally coast", but therapy has allowed him to "open up rooms in himself". "I think that accepting living, being happy, hurting in the extremes, that is the most alive you can be," he said. "Losing it crying, losing it laughing—there's no way, I don think, to feel more alive than that."
He also spoke about the speculation around his sexuality from some quarters after waving Pride flags and wearing unconventional clothing around the release of his last album. "I've been really open with it with my friends, but that's my personal experience; it's mine," he said. "The whole point of where we should be heading, which is toward accepting everybody and being more open, is that it doesn't matter, and it's about not having to label everything, not having to clarify what boxes you're checking."
Styles releases his new album 'Harry's House' on May 20th.
