Burr was the presenter of some categories at the ceremony
If you're familiar with the work of comedian Bill Burr, you'll know that the very essence of his comedy means that it's inevitable that he will cause offence to somebody.
The often un-PC nature of his work has led to several calls for his cancellation in the past, but the actor and podcast host has defied them all every time.
The latest campaign for his cancellation comes in the wake of his appearance at the Grammy Awards yesterday. Burr was tasked with the job of announcing the winners of several categories, but when he joked about mispronouncing the name of one Mexican musician, he pre-empted the controversy by suggesting that 'feminists are like, going nuts' and noting '“Why is this cis-white male doing all this Latino stuff?'
“I can’t say this name. And the Grammy goes to Natalia Lafourcade," he said, announcing the winner of the Best Regional Mexican Music Award. "I will accept on behalf of her. If I butchered her name, I’m sorry. Natalia you won. That’s it."
Earlier, he had poked fun at a lengthy piano performance by saying "Was I the only one that wanted to kill himself during that piano solo?”.
It seems that the Twittersphere is divided on Burr's presenting style, with some declaring him a comic genius who brings some much-needed levity to the ceremony, and others accusing him of racism and misogyny (even though his wife Nia is black.)
Apparently, he also made fun of K-Pop which also has the BTS fandom up in arms.
