Mitch Winehouse claims that the film will be released "in a year or two"
Rumours of an Amy Winehouse biopic have been circulating for several years now.
Four years ago, Irish director Kirsten Sheridan was linked with a film about the London singer and had reportedly signed on to direct Noomi Rapace in the main role.
Last year, Winehouse's father Mitch confirmed that the family had signed a deal with Monumental Pictures and had marked a rough date to begin shooting, but it seems that it never got off the ground.
Now, Mitch Winehouse - who denounced Asif Kapadia's award-winning documentary 'Amy' from 2015 - has reiterated that a biopic is on the way, as well as a Broadway musical.
He told The Morning After podcast: "We’ve got a lovely movie, a lovely Broadway show coming, and that’s how we’ll get our own back, by portraying Amy the way she was."
He added that the film "is gonna be in a year or two. We’ve gone beyond talks," he said. "We’re at script stage. The film is going to be a biopic."
As for who might play Winehouse, who died in 2011 at the age of 27? According to her father, it will not be anyone famous.
"The casting will be - and I get to choose, with recommendations from the producer - a star-maker," he said. "We’re gonna get an unknown actress, ideally a Jewish girl from north or east London who looks a bit like Amy and talks like Amy."
Whether it'll really happen or not this time? That remains to be seen.
