I feel the need..
36 years after the original film hit cinemas, Pete "Maverick" Mitchel is back in the air in the upcoming sequel releasing this summer.
Maverick, played by Tom Cruise, has gone from rogue pilot to master instructor with a new team of young guns in "a specialized mission the likes of which no living pilot has ever seen."
The new squad includes Lt. Bradley Bradshaw (Miles Teller), aka "Rooster," son of Goose, who was killed during training in the original 1986 film. There seems to be a lot of tension in the air (no pun intended) between the two pilots.
The trailer gives us a good insight into the incredible stunt work and high-octane scenes of fighter jet mobility. And, to be honest, that's all we really want here. Just loads of planes doing cool things.
"Everything you see in this film is real," Cruise said at the 2019 San Diego Comic-Con. "We're working with the Navy. I wanted to give you an experience of being inside that aircraft."
Directed by Joseph Kosinski 'Top Gun: Maverick's cast also includes big Hollywood names Jennifer Connelly and Jon Hamm. Glen Powell, Lewis Pullman, Ed Harris, Monica Barbaro, Charles Parnell, Danny Ramirez, Manny Jacinto, Bashir Salahuddin, Jay Ellis, Jake Picking, Raymond Lee, and Jean Louisa Kelly make up the cast.
Originally meant to release in 2019, 'Top Gun: Maverick' has been delayed by almost three years. Apparently the pandemic was not the only factor either. The intricate flight sequences involved in filming required additional time.
