The OG cast are all on board

One of our favourite Christmas films is reportedly getting a sequel with all of the original cast returning.

Cameron Diaz is coming out of her acting retirement to join her co-stars Kate Winslet, Jude Law and Jack Black for a sequel to 'The Holiday', nearly two decades years after the original was released.

The last we saw of the two leading couples, who ended up together after Cameron and Kate's characters swapped houses for the winter, Amanda, Iris, Graham and Miles all spent New Year's Eve together in a snowy UK. But what's happened to them all these years since?

Set for release around this time next year, which will be 17 years since the 2006 romantic comedy was released, the film will begin production in the new year. Details are few and far between at the moment, including whether writer and director Nancy Meyers will be back to helm the feature.

A source told The Sun: "The plan is to start rolling on scenes next year, primarily in the U.K. and in Europe, but the main talent are all signed up and on board.

"It’s one of the most successful movies of its kind and still enjoyed every year by millions of fans around the world – it makes perfect sense to revisit those characters and find out what became of their lives after they hooked up.

"It’ll be funny, poignant, and heartwarming – just what everyone wants for Christmas."

In terms of Christmas films, 'The Holiday' might not have reached the dizzying heights of success as, say, 'Love Actually', but it did prove to be a big hit in cinemas. As well as the four leading actors starring in the festive release, there were a number of cameo appearances dotted throughout with Lindsay Lohan, John Krasinski, Kathryn Hahn, James Franco and even Dustin Hoffman popping up at various points.

Cameron Diaz has not starred in a feature film since 2014's remake of 'Annie', so it's exciting she should come out of retirement for 'The Holiday' sequel. She's mostly been concentrating on spending time with her husband Benji Madden and their daughter, as well as being in charge of her own wine company, Avaline.
