Meow-ve over, there's a new cat in town
With 'Hocus Pocus 2' only a month away from release, fans have been itching to find out if one of their favourite characters will make a return.
Thackery Binx, the beloved character from the 1993 cult classic was an immortal talking cat. Voiced by Jason Marsden, the character was actually a 17th century boy who was transformed into feline form by the Sanderson Sisters.
Acting as a guide for Max, Dani and Allison in the film, Binx helps save the day from the witches. He finally gets his spirit freed at the end.
"Billy [Butcherson] and Binx, I wanted back," director Anne Fletcher, director of 'Hocus Pocus 2' explained in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. "We're having some fun with him, so, we'll see."
There is a certain air of mystery of around her answer. However she did admit there will be no talking cats this time around.
But, all is not lost, there will be a new, regular cat added to the sequel. "That's Cobweb!" said Fletcher, pointing to the cat's appearance in the trailer.
Cobweb takes up residence in Gilbert's occult attraction, the Salem Magic Shoppe, a converted store that occupies the same building the Sanderson Sisters used to call home.
Unfortunately, Fletcher also confirmed to EW that stars Vinessa Shaw (Allison), Omri Katz (Max), Thora Birch (Dani) won't be returning in any form for the sequel. Bullies Jay (Tobias Jelinek) and Ice (Larry Bagby) also won't return.
However, stars of the original Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy and Sarah Jessica Parker all return as the evil witches Winifred, Mary and Sarah Sanderson.
Doug Jones, who played Billy Butcherson in the first 'Hocus Pocus', is also coming back.
Whitney Peak, Lilia Buckingham, Belissa Escobedo, Hannah Waddingham, Sam Richardson and Tony Hale also star.
'Hocus Pocus 2' releases on Disney+ on September 30.
