What might have been...
A lot of different iterations of Superman have been considered over the years. At one point, it was rumoured that Michael B. Jordan was taking over the role. But that never came to pass.
A new report from THR points to a direction that the Superman saga might have gone in.
The outlet reports that, according to a number of sources, DC and Warner Bros. were looking at some non-traditional casting for the role of Superman's grandfather for a time.
At one point, Regé-Jean Page, before he came into major stardom after the release of Netflix series 'Bridgerton', auditioned for the role.
Sadly, the casting and concept were scrapped.
Reportedly Geoff Johns, the former Chief Creative Officer (CCO) of DC Entertainment and overseer of the project, vetoed the idea. He said that Superman could not have a Black grandfather.
According to sources, Johns also vetoed the idea of making the superhero Adam Strange either gay or bisexual.
Johns' rep said in an email: "Geoff celebrates and supports LGTBQ characters, including Batwoman, who in 2006 was re-introduced as LGBTQ in a comic-book series co-written by Johns."
He added that Johns had pitched Warners the development of a TV series around the first LGBTQ lead DC superhero.
The rep also said, regarding the casting of Superman's grandfather, that fans would expect the character to look like a young Henry Cavill (who, by the way, just finished shooting 'The Witcher' season 2, and who recently reprised his Superman role in 'Zack Snyder's Justice League').
The THR report also delved into the clash between Gal Gadot and Joss Whedon during the filming of 'Justice League'.
As for Page, fans of the Duke of Hastings aka Simon Bassett, received disappointing news of late. The actor won't be back for season 2.
